LRD4 wont start when is cold -10(14F)
Hi everyone. I have Land Rover Discovery 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 188kW. That car makes me crazy. I bought last year before the winter and when outside start go to minus than starts the problem. When the oustin is -9C (15.8F), the car is start beutiful, no problem, but if outside temperuture drops -10 (14F) I open the car push start button, ignition switches, and nothing car wont start, totay silent, starter dont crank Several times I try to start the car with a START button, but nothing. Drive it to whith my wife car. Evening at home, outside temperature is -8C (17.6F), I'm trying to start my car and wolaa, car starts. I dont andertand, my car is programmed when it's cold than car wont starts. Before this winter, I installed a remote control kit for AUX HEATING and programmed climat timing ON. I'm thouth if I turn on aux heating before I drive it will fix the problem, but nothing, when it is that -10C aux heating also do not work, but when is -9C than aux heating is working fine. One time I try to heat the dryer with an external temperature sensor, the sensor will heat up to 3C (37.4F), but nothing changes. Can anybody help me
Here's an idea. When the car is cold the brake pedal can be a lot stiffer. Try stamping the brake pedal really hard when you go to press the start button and see if that fixes it. Sometimes on ours if someone sits with foot on brake after the engine is off the brake boost is all used up and you have to press really hard to trigger the switch
What does it say in the instrument console when you press the start button? Does the ignition turn on (fan, radio etc)?

Hello, I seem to have a very similar issue. I changed the battery, but I still sometimes have the same issue. It's not the brake pedel, and I also tried cycling the glow plugs. No success. How did you solve this issue?
Regards
Hi,
First post, but I知 having pretty much the same issue with my 2016 L494 sport. Always have problems when car is < -2. Car won稚 start first time on second press of ignition button with foot on brake pedal (pedal goes solid after a couple of presses) takes probably a good 8-12 tries before it engages starter to turn over. Have read that ABS pressure check on first press of ignition button can stop car from starting if check is not correct?
Interested to know others thoughts?

Hey all, did anyone figure out what was the cause of vehicle not starting in the cold? I did some further research, I am not pointing at the Telematics Control Unit (TCU). It has a Lithium battery, which might get old and the voltage might drop. The TCU, in this case, can prohibit the engine start. Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Happy New year everyone.. I have a 2011 LR4, live in Saskatchewan, get's very cold and I had a similar issue, car would not start as soon as the temps dropped down. Turned over nicely, but just wouldn't start. Sadly no block heater. With this vehicle, we purchased used, it always had a slight gas smell in the cabin, turn's out, we had a cracked injector, took a little bit to troubleshoot. Since we replaced that injector, the smell is gone and the rover starts.. Only way I noticed was one day when it was -30 I crawled under, while the wife tried starting it, and noticed gas leaking down from the top of the engine. Towed it to the shop. The day in which they started the diagnostics, temperatures were hovering around 0, and they could find nothing, and it started perfectly. So, the injector would seal itself off as the metal expanded in the warmer temps. Crazy, but factual. So the next shop I took it too scoped the system and found the little crack.. Hope this helps..
The SDV6 has a number of differences that need to be considered over the SCV6. I'd start with fixing that AUX heater. Of course, that original post was some many years ago now. I hope its been corrected. Would have been nice to know the root cause and corrective action.
