Default Movie on iPad, sound through stereo possible?

So we didn't buy the $2500 in-car DVD system. i figured I could buy 3-4 iPads for the same price. Here is what I cannot figure out...

Plug the iPad into the center console and you can listen to music through the stereo. Watch a youTube video and the sound will play through the stereo while the video plays on the iPad. Try watching a video (bought legally through iTunes) and the sound will not play through the car while the video is playing on the iPad. Any thoughts?

seems to be a common thing with ipads and factory stereos. i'm not sure what the issue is, but it seems intentional from apple. if i come up with anything i'll post. i'm interested in doing the same thing. an audio jack might be your best option at this point.
i'd go to the apple store and see if they have any thoughts. if you can find a "cool" person there they'll tell you the "non-apple" way of working around these issues.

Anyone figure this out yet? I'll be picking up the new whip in a few days and would love to be able to stream the sound through the radio.
