19' wheels run the speedo at 1 mph slow at 30 mph.

 

You should keep overall tire diameter the same. Step down to 19inch wheels and have an extra inch of sidewall so the diameter is identical. Then it won't make any difference to the speedo

 

Thank you for the advice.. indeed the owner's manual calls for 255/55 tires on the 19 inch rims and 255/50 for the 20 inch rims. That should take care of the Diane difference.

I see a lot of LR wheels online and on eBay, seemingly the right size but they're advertised as fitting, for example, 2010-2014 years and not 2016. I find it hard to believe that rims are so year- specific.

Also, how do I determine what offset is needed? Manual doesn't mention it.

I think the wheels are interchangeable across all years of LR4. And with the Range River Sport too. Ask your dealer but that's my understanding. Pls check though!

Offset is 53 for the 19 inch wheels. It's slightly lower for the 20inch as they are 8.5inch wide and the 19s are 8 inches wide so the offset has to account for the extra width.

A general question about Land Rover extended warranties: does LR sell them directly or do y ou get them thru dealer? I have a 2116 LR4 and have been advised to get an extended warranty.

What does it cover? Is the cost fixed or negotiable?

Through the dealer. Cost is 'fixed' but you can certainly negotiate - although easier to negotiate as part of a used car buy. But why buy one now - you have a few yrs left on your warranty I'd imagine? And you can buy closer to expiry of current warranty

Note that it's not a real warranty like a factory warranty. A lot less is covered - depends on the specifics. Doesn't usually cover trim, wear items, sometimes excludes other items too. I have the LR one on my 2010 LR4 and it didn't cover replacement of bushings for front lower control arms for example (an expensive repair)
Lots of third party ones too so look around

Not sure I would buy one if I had my time again - it covered a couple of small items and a wheel bearing but nothing close to the 2500 or so I paid for it. In general the LR4 has been extremely reliable

 

Thanks for the advice. It's curious but the dealer basically won't admit that thee is a LY extended warranty and when I called LY they were also very reluctant to admit it. Seemingly the dealer is pushing the third party ones that are more like insurance policies and one needs to read exactly what the include.

According to the manual the shift paddles should work in D, but I can only get them to work in S. there is no option in setting up the vehicle to change this. What am I missing?

End of last year I purchased a 2013 LR4 and went for the extended warrenty. When comparing between CPO and the third party warrenty the third party was a much better deal. The CPO mileage and calendar (options on how many months I wanted to purchase) started at date the vehicle went into service where the third party began at point of purchase.

The truck is a work vehicle that I will likely sell prior to ending the warrenty but I can cash out the remaining warrenty or it is transferable to the new owner. So worth the investment from my perspective.

It is my understanding you get 2 hours free off road training from LR when you purchase new. Your dealer should be able to give you information no who to contact but one of the schools is in Asheville NC and the other North east, perhaps Vermont. Google and you should find fairly easily. Wife and I are considering the NC location as a fun couples trip. The school is connected to the Baltimore property so a nice place to spend a long weekend.

Yrs, buying a new LR gets you 2 hrs of lessons. I will take mine at the LR school in Manchester VT. It's affiliated with the Equinox, a wonderful hotel *** spa. They have a deal where if you buy a one hr lesson you get a terrific deal on two-day stay. Si i think I'll buy an hour and add my two free ones. That should get me going! Or perhaps do the one hour now on snow and ice and save the 2 hour one for mud and gravel
