Default Potential New LR4 Owner

Seeking some advice and info. I'm looking at purchasing a 2014 LR4 w/V6 SC w/86k mi that has been pretty meticulously maintained. I've been doing my research but I still have a number of questions for this group before I take the leap.

1. This will be a daily driver and long trip family adventure vehicle (on and off-road), am I crazy to look at an LR4 for this? I'm mechanically inclined but I don't have the appropriate tools for work on a vehicle. I do have a excellent auto mechanic friend however who can work on my vehicles.
2. is the best aftermarket upgrade kit for the water pump/crossover pipe/belt replacement. I believe these I should replace soon after the purchase.
3. Recommendations for any "key" areas I should inspect on the vehicle before purchase? Like I mentioned the current owner has done a lot of preventative maintenance including just replacing the lower control arms last night.
4. What is the best online source for parts?
5. The LR4 has pretty a pretty good tow rating but should I be concerned towing a 4,000lb overland camper on long adventures?
6. Anything I'm missing or should know/be aware of?

Thanks!
TT

Welcome!
By soliciting for responses.. you will have many opposing views.

0. its a 2014, therefore already 10 years old. You state “meticulously maintained”. And whatever that means, there are a number of items for maintenance beyond the typical.
1. That is precisely what this vehicle was engineered for.
2. The oem solution lasted 10 years… why deviate from that? That is, I’m an oem guy.
3. Now the truth comes out. Owner maintained. I for one demand an alignment following any suspension work. And who knows what chinesium parts were used across the vehicle. But to answer your question, based on what you are planning;
a. ALL fluids and filters. Did I say ALL?? oil, supercharger, transmission, diffs, power transfer case, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid.
b. pcv valve
c. all coolant hoses
d. brakes and lines.
e. confirm all bushings.
f. was the air suspension maintained? (desiccant in the air filter)
g. Get the underside steam cleaned and sprayed with rust inhibitor. (Lanolin based)
h. just save yourself the grief and replace both agm batteries now.
4. Many go to Atlantic British. Frankly, I get better prices at the dealer and includes 1 year parts and labour warranty if they do the work.
5. It will handle great. Just bring another credit card for gas. And don’t be crazy and try to drive at 90mph.
6. Yes. Many ignore this… READ the Owners Manual and take a look at the technical descriptions in the workshop manual. There is a lot of invalid rumor and innuendo spread by those who haven’t.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your comments and recommendations. Understood regarding the "owner maintained" feedback and recommended service I should do.
What do you mean by "And don’t be crazy and try to drive at 90mph"? Freeway speed limits here are 80mph so I frequently am driving 80-90mph, are you saying that's crazy in general or crazy in an LR4?

i think guy was referring to when towing. the LR4 can easily do 80-90 mph unladen. but, not sure any vehicle should be doing 80-90 mph when pulling a trailer.

Does anyone have a good source for a free owners manual for download...PDF preferred? I've searched and outside of paying for the download I haven't found a clean and clear option.

I thought you could get the latest LR4 Owner's manual from the Land Rover site, no charge. Or the topix web site. Or the Land Rover Owner's website.
I'm a "books" kind of guy and ordered the complete owners manual set (for all my vehicles) from http://www.jaguarlandroverliterature.com/
Its quite pretty... leather folder and all the user guides/

I would have thought so too. The Land Rover site requires the VIN and when I entered mine it said "not supported". Oh well...

Not a 2014. Smallest diameter rim is a 19. Check you driver’s door sill.
Some do squeeze on an 18, but they grind down the calipers and put on spacers.
