Daily off road driving ability - Looking at LR4
Hi,
I am looking to purchase an LR4 to drive on island. Our house is up in the hills and our Road is a Rocky, dirt hill climb and decent. Is the LR4 a good vehicle to handle this daily off road driving? Should i be concerned about how long the suspension would last? outside of the road up to our house, the roads are paved. we do have a mechanic that works on land rovers, but no warranty would be valid since the island is a US Territory.
Are the LR4 worth purchasing over the LR3? I was looking at both the 2010 /2011 LR4 model.
thanks,
E

I imagine it would be costly to keep it up. If the high cost of a LR4 and continuing high cost of beating up an expensive vehicle is not an issue, then I imagine it would be a good fit. You could probably keep the expenses under control if you spent considerably on improving the road. That would be the proactive approach. Either way, I am sure it is big bucks. But then, I don't live on the top of an island. A more practical option would be an older 4x4 that is well maintained.
Personally, I would choose a Range Rover Classic. It wouldn't be as costly as a new LR4, but it wouldn't be inexpensive to put a 25 year old Range Rover in decent order. Once it was done, it would be simple and easy to maintain and I am sure it would take that kind of abuse without complaint.

I own a 2010 range rover with 128,000 miles and a 2012 LR4 with 48,000 miles.. both vehicles share the same engine.... I have not had any trouble with either truck..... I would tell anyone to get a land rover product that is 2010 and newer... HUGE improvement in reliability.... we love our 1989 range rover and our 2000 discovery but they are terrible with maintenance.... so yes, get the LR4... no issues at all and we take all of our vehicles off road... very tough and RELIABLE.... just sayin....
I don't know why the warranty wouldn't be valid but I think from seeing the LR4 off road at a Land Rover event it would do that and in comfort.
