We recently experienced this with our 2010 Range Rover Sport. The nav screen went out. It would come on and show Range Rover for about 5 seconds, shut down for 55 seconds and then repeat. I tried swapping a used nav screen, didn't work. I tried swapping a used cd/control unit, didn't work. I tested all of the fiber optic connections, no luck, all of them looked good.

I finally took it the dealer, after $350, they told me that the cd/control unit was dead and needed to be replaced for $2000. (They also broke part of the trim on the center console. They super glued it together and didn't say a word......I had it off the day before I took it to the dealer and it was fine. When I got it home from the dealer, I noticed the break......) The dealer told me that a used unit could not be reprogrammed to work in my vehicle and that I had to buy a new unit to make it work.

I took it to my local indy shop. They were too busy and had no interest in trying to figure it out. They referred me to an electrical shop in their same strip center, Luxe Electric in San Diego. The shop was incredible! They confirmed that the control unit was dead. They reprogrammed a used unit to work in my vehicle. It works great. As I recall, their total bill was around $500. Very fair. The shop is Luxe Electric, on 5820 Autoport Mall in San Diego, 619 535-7000. They are amazing. I can't recommend them highly enough. There is another shop in the LA area, Van Nuys, as I recall that also can reprogram.
