Roof rack / rails

Roof rack / rails
Hi all. My 2012 LR4 didn't come with roof rails when I bought it certified a few years back. Now I have kayaks and such that I will often just drop the tailgate and throw in the back, but I'm starting to also look at rooftop tents.
Most tents I see will mount to any standard rail system, but I'm wondering if I should buy OEM or go with something else all together? Basically do I need rails to mount any other system to the roof or can I bypass the rails with some other setups. Also I tend to only purchase OEM parts, but wondering if it's worth it for these bars and/or if there's something even better.
Thanks!

You can go with oem Yakima or Thule. All work well. You will have to buy adapters if you get the oem racks and want to use Yakima or Thule attachments. Adapters are about $20. Checkout craigslist or offerup. You can get some great deals on used Yakima an Thule gear. I have seen oem racks/crossbars for as little as $50. Personally we have been a Yakima family. Bike racks, ski racks, baskets and we had a packasport rooftop box. We loved the packasport. Amazing for trips and super secure. Good luck. Phil
