Shaving front caliper heat fins.. for new wheel setup
Hey all!
I was wondering if I could get some feedback on a new wheel setup that I'm considering.
2016 LR4
American racing 201s 18x9et35 with BFG 275/65/18s K02s
I'd like to go with these without lifting the car or adding spacers.
If I do it, I'm told that you'd need to shave off a little of the heat fins on the front calipers... and heat mold the wheel well a bit and cut off some plastic nubs.
This doesn't sound too difficult.. as I really love the look of this setup.
But... I'm wondering if anyone else had to shave the front calipers to get their new wheel setup to fit well. How did it work? Was it easy to do...and safe?
Thanks so much!
Here is a pic of what I'd like to end up with.

I was just going to not respond… but
You are actually considering destroying the operational effectiveness of a brake caliper… to accommodate the esthetics of new wheels?!?
We have a very different set of priorities.

I don't think it would be a good idea.. that's why I brought it up. It doesn't seem like it would affect the effectiveness of the brakes at all... but still.. I don't know if anyone else has done this other than the guy who modified this car.
There's actually a nice tool online that shows the actual size and exact measurements of different tires configurations.
I really like the look of this car... but it can also be achieved by using a 20" rim which of course would be better. And again, not having to lift it at all.
The positive offset of a different rim could also help this tire from hitting the wheel well on full turn without using a spacer.
