Default Transfer case/Diff/Transmission oil types for 2016 LR4

I own a 2016 LR4 with HD package (2-speed transfer case and rear lock). I pretty much searched all the Internet for the correct oil type for the transmission/transfer case/diff. The information literally doesn't exist. All are about pre-2014 models with V8 5.0, 6-speed transmission and the default 2-speed transfer case. Atlantic British has service kit for this older model, but not for the post-2014 ones.

After research and research, I figured the new 8-speed transmission is ZF 8HP70, though I cannot 100% confirm. I think I can use the standard ZF 8 speed transmission service kit (which is sold on Amazon). The filter design is changed and hence does not need to saw the old filter to remove. The cover of the 8 speed integrates the filter and it is flat, which makes it much easier to remove and install.

As for transfer case and rear diff with lock (HD package), I couldn't find anything for the 2014 - 2016 LR4s. I don't know if they are the same as for the pre-2013, or if Land Rover changed parts. Can I use the same transfer case oil and diff oil that are designed for pre-2013 LR4 with HD package?

I think I'm 100% that the transmission is ZF 8HP70.

Using https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...nd/land-rover/, which is the official website for land rover parts, it lists the model number for the two transmissions (6-spd and 8-spd). 8-spd one is 8HP70

And using the following ZF document, I can find the service kit number: 1087.298.365
https://aftermarket.zf.com/remotemed...p-50130-en.pdf

Interestingly, once a number is available, it is much easier to search for additional information on the internet. For example, this ZF page confirms that the 3.0 V6 gas LR4 uses 8HP70 and should use this service kit:

And on that page, I can even find the Land Rover compare number for the transmission pan, which helps me find the exact model: LR065238 (the other one LR023294 is superseded by this)

Now, the transfer case.

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...nd/land-rover/

With the HD package + 8-spd transmission, I can easily locate my transfer case (the first one).

Once in the second page, I compare my VIN with the range specified on that page, and located my transfer case model: LR089531

Rear diff - what can I say. Once you figured out how to get this kind of information, it is addictive.

I found this dealership website which allows you to query part for a specific vehicle. Nice. https://parts.landroverpalmbeach.com/

I located the part number of the 2016 LR4 (3.0 V6) rear diff with lock: LR050892
https://parts.landroverpalmbeach.com.../LR050892.html

To compare, I also get the part number of the 2013 LR4 (5.0 V8) rear diff with lock: LR017328
https://parts.landroverpalmbeach.com.../LR017328.html

Hmm... I feel that they should be the same thing, but how do I confirm? Back to the official Land Rover parts website
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...tial-rear.html
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...tial-rear.html

Looking at the part diagram of the two diffs - they are exactly the same thing.

OK. So, what transfer case oil should I use? The website above still doesn't say.

On Rimmerbros, the LR050893 is listed to be used between LR4 and RR L405. So instead of searching for LR050893 + LR4 to get nothing back for oil type, I simply searched for L405 transfer case oil type. And guess what...

https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/...ce-diy.336368/

Simply put, yes, use IYK500010, which is what I have guessed before.

Oh, I even found out the OEM of the transfer case: Magna Steyr DD295

BTW, if you don't want to buy the expensive ZF OEM transmission oil pan, you can use the Mopar one.

Also quality stuff.

That was a lot of posts. I hope I answer all of your questions.

yes. We have the 8HP70. Uses lifeguard 8 from the factory, but their are other alternatives. I personally use motul. Personally, I dropped and replaced my pan at 70K. It's up to you if you want to wait until 100K, but I would not go past that mileage.

you can use the Atlantic British kit. The fluids are the same. Differences occur with the drain/fill plugs for the transfer car and drain plug for the front diff. This is VIN specific. A quick call to Atlantic British will get you the right part.
