Default US retail options

Anyone help with options on a new US LR4?

What are these line items for:

"Additional Transport Protection" $200
"Protection Package" $520

Thanks in advance.

Maybe fancy words for increased profit. Have the robin bastids show you exactly what it is, maybe just a spray of Scotch Guard fabric protector on the carpet. I put these in the column with "credit life insurance" - the value received by the customer is greatly exceeded by the value received by the sales weasel.

My dad had a Dodge/Volvo/Fiat/Mercedes dealership when I was growing up. All these dealer add ons are a product of the 80's. In the old days there was just the sticker price, and everyone knew that it was negotiable. Some would bring in a tired old clunker just to have the trade in to haggle with. The modern dealer makes money on the vehicle, the dealer provided options, the trade in, the finance they arrange, credit life, shop fees, recycling fees, extended warranty fees, shop manager kids college fund fees, and the commission sales man "how-big-a-fib-will-u-tell-to-make-the-mortgage" fee.

Seems like the older I got the less inclined I was to go to the dealer. Now I tend to buy pre-owned vehicles that I always wanted and could never afford. Of course, you can't afford dealer repairs, so out comes the tool box. I think of it as a new hobby.

But I am told that in parts of Connecticut the LR4 is frequently purchased as the vehicle for the nanny to drive the kids to school in.

In 20 years, we'll be telling people how to change the oil in them too.

Rover dealers are few and far between, so the exclusive nature holds up the price.

My favourites are:
Admin Fee, Globali Registration Fee, Advertising Fee....Sometimes this can up to $1000 extra of NO ADDED VALUE!

Just buying a vehicle isn't good enough any more. (*~*)
