Why is there a difference in the fuel economy of the 3.0L V6 petrol engine in US vs. Europe? .. all other specifications are the same (torqe, hp, kW..)

US specs:
14 mpg (city) & 19 mpg (highway) & 16 mpg (combined)
same numbers in l/100, converted
16.8 l/100 (city) & 12.38 l/100(highway) & 14.7 l/100 (combined)

Europe specs:
15.7 l/100 (city) & 9.9 l/100(highway) & 12.0 l/100 (combined)

 

If I had to guess, I would chalk it up to Califonia's strict emissions regulations. Less emmisions these days often equate to a more efficient engine, so you get more per mile than a non US market vehicle that doesn't have to abide by these regs.

I could be wrong of course, just a hunch.

 

Probably the way the EPA makes them estimate it is different from the way it's estimated in Europe.

 

European emissions are stricter than US. Just have less equipment to do it. MOT inspections regulate emissions and are not tolerated as US will let you attempt repairs to a certain $ then give you a pass. Is that litres per 100? As mpg.

 

I'm going to go with this. ^^ In Canada they are trying to pass new laws that make the overexaggerated MPG (or L/100km) more realistic to what you actually get. The EU is probably already ahead.

 

The city and highway mileage measurements are different in the US vs the EU, so you'll get different numbers even on identical cars.
