Default Used LR4 Advice

New to forum and considering a used LR4 for purchase. Choice between a 2013 HSE LUX with 29K miles (Aintree Green) or a 2014 HSE Lux with 47K (Santorini Black). 2014 has Heavy Duty Package. Both are 1 owner, CPO vehicles with clean CARFAX. I'm sure this has been discussed previously, but would one recommend the V6 and 8 speed as more reliable, etc., or is the fuel economy / performance difference negligible. Thank you.

I am currently shopping and have settled on getting V8 over V6. I simply would rather have the additional power and don't want to deal with more things to go bad (superchargers). I have driven both at the dealership and liked the additional umph of the V8.

Now, I have heard all kinds of reports on mileage on these. Everything from 12-13 to 17-20 highway on both V6 and V8, one person even reported 17+ towing 4000-5000 pounds with the V8. Who knows what is true at this point.

I have read in one thread that people who go off road tend to like the V8 more.

Here is some stuff I found on the topic...

2012 vs. 2015 LR4 HSE LUX - Land Rover and Range Rover Forums

All that being said, I think the 14's and up look nicer with the exterior updates and I like the cleaner interior on the center stack without the shifter. However, if you are going off road, I dunno about that being a good idea. I have plenty of off road experience in my old Discovery 1 and I have had to shift quickly into reverse while rolling backwards down a hill for engine breaking instead of using the brakes. Doing that with the little **** doesn't seem, well, doable.

My preference would be the V8. The supercharged V6 doesnt have the same low end pull and they have had issues with them in both Jags and LR's.

Get one with the actual shifter not the dial and paddles. My $.02

SCV6 drives nice but the V8 is a bit more proven, more ooompf

I have a 2012. I've had the new model as a loaner. My wife and I prefer ours, but the V6 is more than ok. It is rare that a manufacturer would go backwards with regards to engine performance. All are great. BUT i just did 30 miles of low range off roading this past weekend. I really enjoyed the shifter control by moving it between 1-3 in the mountains. Paddles are for performance cars not really off roading IMO.
