Default What's this broken metal plate I found under my engine? :0

Hey guys!

Long time, first time!

Anyhow, we got a pretty nasty oil leak pulling our boat back from the lake. We kept an eye one it and were able to baby it home loosing about 1 qt / hr.

Dropped the bash plate and found this under the engine. Not sure where it dropped from, but it landed under the pulley's on the drivers side.

It's an '11 LR4 with the 5.0.

Haven't had a chance to really dig in, and oil was vaporizing from landing on the exhaust, so there's oil everywhere in the engine bay, but I suspect the leak may be related to this broken plate.

There's also a buzzing noise that's frequency changes with engine speed that seemed to start at the same time if that's any clue..

The bolt landed right next to it and doesn't appear to be broken. Looks like it backed out.

I was told by dealer that the chain guide had been re-done before we bought it about 40k miles ago. That bit could be a red haring, but it might be a clue since it looks like the bolt that was holding the plate came loose.

Anyone recognize this mystery part?

I looks like a broken mounting tab for another part. Being that thin, I couldn't tell you what part it broke off of though. May be part of the timing cover...Start searching around the driver side head and block. It's possible that that bolt inserted into an oil channel or the valve cover and that is why you have an oil leak. I would also guess that the noise you are hearing is related to the affected part now being loose and vibrating harmonically with the engine.

Ended up being the a high pressure fuel pump that’s literally hanging on by a couple threads.. Don’t ask me how it made it home..
