Automatic to 5-speed conversion?
Hello All,
I love my Range Rover Classic but I really miss using a standard transmission. Are there any companies that make conversions kits to put the European 5-speed in my 1991 US version Rangie? Have any of you tried this conversion? Any info would be of Great help.
Thanks,
Dan

RE: Automatic to 5-speed conversion?
That is a pretty large job both in parts, labor and $$$$. As far as I know there are no kits made to do this.
The cost of the parts would probably be more then the value of the truck. Cheapest way to do it would be to find a salvage vehicle and then you would still need a new clutch and rebuild the tranny before installing it.

RE: Automatic to 5-speed conversion?
Thanks for the advice Mike,
I would not seriously consider the auto to 5-speed conversion if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ve been told my current transmission is on its way out. I’ll have to pull the tranny anyway. If there are no companies that have done this conversion before I will be doing all the work myself. I’m not worried about the cost of labor…just feasibility and parts acquisition. I can machine and weld up parts if I have to. At this point I’m well aware it’s a very involved job. If I’m successful I’ll keep the truck forever.
Regards,
Dan
