any advise on strengthning the drive train to cope with more power and a sereous flogging. ive recently bought a 94 disco and i allready no all to well just how weak the rover diffs and axel are i plan on rebuilding the 3.9 litre engine and creating more horse power and im looking for a cost effective way to strengthen everything from the engine back.

I hate to say it but you won't turn that motor into a real powerhouse in any event. If you could I'm not so sure you should.

Lockers would probably be my first investment, and if you were ever going to re-gear that would be the time as you'll need to set up gears again anyhow. I wouldn't even try to upgrade to a larger U-Joint. If you like the skinny pedal eventually you will break something. If you think about every break point / moving part along the drivetrain, U-Joints are probably the one you want to break if you had to pick something.
