CDL lever install on 2000 Discovery 2
I recently purchased a CDL lever from a Discovery 1 and today I tore into my Discovery II to install it. Everything went very smooth so I thought that I would share a few of my experiences here for others to look at when they tackle this job.
I'd say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most difficult mechanically, this job was a 3-4.
you will need the following tools:
8mm 1/4" socket
10mm 1/4" socket
13mm 1/4" socket
1/4" ratchet
4" 1/4" extension
Phillips screwdriver
Flat head screw driver
Drill 3/8"
Drill bit to drill out rivets
Cut off tool or Grinder
Hammer
Its helpful to get all the nuts and bolts with the new shifter, but if thats not the case ( like in my case ) I purchased a $24 Dorman Metric nut and bolt kit from autozone to save me running back and forth to the store for bolts.
The process is simple, removing the center console is the most difficult process and the most time consuming.
The next most difficult process is rebending the discovery 1 high/low lever to match the discovery II transfer case, be careful, gentle and take your time. There is a ton of room for adjustability there so being exact is not necessary.
Here are some pictures to help:

How much bending did you have to do? How did you get the auto cable off and what did you use to put the cover on? Screws or rivets?
You don't have to bend, just install the hi lo housing I sold you. That way it's plug and play.
Use some RTV when mounting the hi lo housing. The hi low linkage will match right up with the new housing.

No bending just finished installing that housing and cdl. See the pic

The shifter cover you sent me doesn't fit. It's has a bunch of holes and is too big.

Shifter cover, or hi lo selector housing? I think you are talking about the sheet metal plate that holds the rubber boot.
I'm talking about the small rectangle aluminum piece with 6 screw holes and screws. It mounts onto your transfer case and has the lever which the hi lo linkage connects to.
Did you look at the link I sent?
