CDL upgrade options for 03 Disco
I've spend a couple hours doing a ton of searching of the forum and learned a lot about CDL with different model years Disco. But what I need to find is some info about my options specifically with an 03.
I'm not planning on rock crawling but I would like to play light to medium off road "games".
Also the truck is in need of some work anyway- rubber, brakes, drag link, track rod, window reg, etc,, so while I'm digging in I might as well do some upgrades while I'm at it and make a project out of it.
If I want to add CDL should I buy a used part from an 04 or previous year like 01?
Are they all compatible in terms of mounting and other components like drive shafts?
What are my interior options for a shifter?
Is this all worth it in terms of time and money?
I already own the rig so don't bother suggesting buying a different model year... For a while I need to either live without the mod, or jump in and do it. That's the decision to be made.

I did some more searching on the web (vs just on this site) and found a lot more info.
Looks like essentially your options are:
1- Buy an older TC (pre-02) and install with either old style LRvr linkage shifting or newer (04) style LRvr cable shifter, or aftermarket shifter from Ashcroft.
2- Buy a newer 04 TC and use an 04 shifter
3- Convert your 03 transfer case to locking.
Here's a link for option 3 in case you have an 03 and are considering this...

Here's some other links that I found with main web search...

You have limited options, either install a t/case from a 04 along with its cable linkage or buy a used CDL nose assembly for around $150 plus either a D2 mechanical linkage or an 04 cable style linkage.
How mechanical are you?
Do not plan on using a pre-03 t/case because they are different in length and the electronics are also different.
If you have any questions, PM me your number and I'll be glad to walk you thru your questions.

I did the installation a couple of months ago. Installed a 2004 assembly and shift linkage. Best modification which I have done so far for my Disco. It is definitely a plus if you intend to do some off-roading.
I recommend going with the 2004 cable linkage (instead of the D1 rod linkage version).
