Adding CDL to an '03?

Adding CDL to an '03?
Just seen the post about lockers or winch and it got me thinking.
My '03 is still fairly low mileage at 55k and, I'm hoping, has a long life ahead of it (oil pump willing). So I think that it might be worth my while to try to upgrade it as opposed to getting an '04.
What's involved with adding an '04 CDL to my Rover? I'm assuming that I'll need the transfer case, shifter, and maybe a console unless I can cut out something in my existing one. If I'm not concerned about indicator lights and chimes, what else would I need?
Any ballpark estimates as to what it will cost?
Thanks.

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but all you need is the shifter.

I do not think that you need a new transfer case for a '03.
But if you do then a '04 transfer case will just bolt right in.

Actually it is more involved than that on the 03s. 01-03s do not have the CDL nipple so in order to put CDL in you truck you would have to at a minimum add the CDL nipple to the transfer case and the shifter inside. It's a pretty involved process but it is possible.

Truth be known, you need a t/case and a shifter, be it from a D1, an 04 or a electronic solenoid package like I use.
If you are ready to act, I have access to a 04 T/case with only 34,000 miles on it and no linkage, thing is like brand new.
No work is required as far as changing the console, jsut the linkage that goes thru it.

A D1 t-case will probably have at least 150K miles on it. Mike is saying he has an '04 t-case, which you can retro fit the CDL linkage from a D1. I'd go that route before getting a well used D1 t-case. There are people (like Will Tillery, roveryguy.com) who sell used t-cases for $250-$400.

$775 for a low mile grade "A" 2004 t-case.

$350-$1250 for a grade "A" DI t-case.
I think the $1250 ones have been rebuilt.
If you buy from a salavge yard you cna get a low mile DI t-case.
