I'm not saying you couldn't get a D2 V8 immersed but there's way more stuff to run into problems with when it gets wet.

There's a guy on here who just posted, trying to get his 04 d2 going after inadvertently getting it deeper into a hole than he expected.

I'm not sure that car washes will work with a rack as big as the safety devices one on the roof. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that we're too tall.
Spare tire carrier or ladder seems like a good idea for location. You could always use an antenna that folds back to the rear of the truck if you did rack mount, although I'm not sure if youd really get any more range from it being higher up in the air. It'd probably be more likely just to get caught up on stuff.

Well around here we have 3 types oc car washes. Some have considerably taller and wider bays, ideal for the big utility trucks. They are self serve. I do use those alot but they also have some in my area where you drive in and jets shoot out all the soap and wax, then blast the vehicle with water, no brushes or anything like that. Then they have the common ones with the brushes that you do not even want to think about driving through with a decked out truck or Rover!

Yeah I know about the electronics, I just figured save as many things as possible. if I mount the radio and cd changer up high those are 2 less things Ill have to worry about and more money in my pocket. Eventually Ill update all my seals and try to waterproof the interior a bit but for now it is as it is.

Ive never done water crossings yet but I assume the best course of action is to bring extra socks and a pair of those long waterproof fishermans boots, grab a stick and walk out into the water to measure the depth and map out the terrain so you know weather its safe to drive across or not.

I'll take some tomorrow and email them to you. It's mounted on the back of my truck at the moment and is how I access the roof. I splurged and bought myself a new one rather than get this one powder coated.

Any mounting bracket should work, Are you wanting to mount the antenna on the front pillar, that looks like a front pillar mount, what kind of setup are you going with. From my experiences with radios the best place for antenna mounting is usually top dead center of the vehicle, but I never liked the way it looked mounted that way, I'm going to mount mine on the spare tire mount. Make sure you get a SWR meter to tune your rig. We used to get 20 to 30 mile ranges with properly tuned rigs (using Linear's of course). I'm going to use a regular looking 90' bracket with a spring swivel on mine, I got my big **** whip which looks cool but they hit everything, lol

this is for a wrangler, but looks easy enough to fab,

Im going to mount my antenna on the rear cargo door, probably behind the spare tire of on the rear most pillar. Can you send me a link to the site to buy that bracket? I want to see if the holes in it match up with the holes on my spare tire mount.
