You may want to e-mail me your tele number, you seem to need some answers answered.

YES, you HAVE to rebuild the front drive-shaft, regardless of whether or not you intend to lift the truck! The reason is that it has non-grease-able U-joints and in time the heat from the catalytic converter will cook the grease that was put in them at the factory and they WILL fail. When the drive shaft fails, it will be catastrophic and will almost certainly destroy your transmission. The good news? It's only about $250 to have your shaft rebuilt or you can simply buy a rebuilt and balanced shaft from toddcosuspensions.com for $280 (http://www.toddcosuspensions.com/larodiiifrdr.html) and it's relatively easy to do it yourself in the driveway.

SLS is the Self Leveling Suspension. Your truck may or may not have it, and even if it came with it then there's a good chance it may have since been converted to coil-sprung suspension. If it has a functioning (or malfunctioning, LOL) SLS system, you'd likely know it.

Hope this helps!

Cool Front Drive Shaft replacement?

Hello, (Disco Mike)
I have 69k on my 03 Discovery II. At what mileage point should I consider replacing my front drive shaft with the rebuilt one you mention in this post.

I decided to run the same tires that i run on all of my 4x4 rigs. The toyo ATs. I have found that they have more than ample mud clearing from the treds and have a better grip on snowy and ice covered roads than the MTs from either toyo or BFGs. just my 2 cents.

Default found tires, are they good?

I got an offer for some LT265/75r16 Dunlop Mud Rovers for $640 and thats with installation. I have read up on them and they seem like good tires. anybody got any more info about these tires? also what is the biggest tire you can fit on a Disco II without a lift?

I just purchased a 2003 Disco II SE
Can someone give me a checklist of stuff that needs to be done before I can wheel this thing. This is my first one and I have always had Toyota's before this. I just have always loved the look and feel of the rovers and man the history is bar none. I see that I need a new drive shaft. What were you saying about high gears Mike? is that something that has to be done to wheel or can you get around it with skill and seat time? I want this thing to be able to keep up with my best friends Land Cruiser and its a long ways off at this point. My plan is Lift, Tires, Bumpers, Sliders, Armor,Air Lockers, Roof Rack, Lights. I have to start slow and work my way up so I was thinking small lift and Tires and whatever has to be done to get to that point is what I would love all you to guide me through. Thanks Dave

Before adding toys, check out Disco Mike's 60k mile service list under the Discovery section and do any of that your rig needs.

Excuse I.

So will 265/75r16 tires fit a Disco 1 without a lift? What about 235/85r16s? If neither of these will fit what is the biggest tire you can run without a lift? I plan to off road I dont care if the tires rub some I just dont want them destroying my outer fenders.

No, 265's won't fit without a lift and if you have over 60,000 miles on your truck, you should be replacing/lifting your old suspension to give you some needed clearance.
235's are too narrow, in appearance for a D2, consider a 245/75/16 for a non lifted D2.
