Is it possible to put a Disco II grill guard on a 97 Disco I?

Default RE: Grill Guard

Yes and no... I have a '97 with a Disco II front guard. The form of the guard is the same, but the mounting is different. The Disco I guard mounts are "L" shaped in go up to the frame. The Disco II mounts are basically straight. I built two bracket mounts and welded them to the bottom of the frame (just below the bumper mounts). If you are handy and can weld, then it isn't too bad. If you aren't, then find a friend or buy a Disco I guard. If you live in WA, you can stop by and I'll weld a set of mounts on your ride for you .
