On this swap topic-has one ever looked at the 3.8 V6 out of the Buick? You can trim them as high HP or torque as you want to dial in, and they don't break with the regularity of a LR V8.

Has anyone tried to fit a D3 or D4 V6 engine, be it petrol or diesel, and/or transmission into a D2? That would probably be interesting offroad. I've never thought about this option as I use my SWB 2.8TD Pajero for offroad now and again.

If you plan on using the 4hp22, it won't hold.

I'm putting a BMW M70 into my RRC (been done once by a guy named Kito in the PNW), and using a 4hp24 that came with the M70. The trans housings are the same, so the t-case will/should bolt up....

I'm halfway into resealing the engine.

RRC currently has BMW M52B28, bolted right up to the stock trans.

I'm sure you have plenty of skeptics about the size of the M70, but even if you fit it, it will be too heavy. Already with the comparatively light Rover V8, the Discovery needs a diet, not a heavier engine. Still, I'll applaud your success. It ought to be fun if anything.

Meh, M70s aren't that large. All alum. A running, dressed M70 is around 522lbs (HP rated at 295 and power/weight at 1.77lb/hp) Rover V8 is what, 507 fully dressed (Dimensions of the Rover V8 engine fully dressed, and weighing in at 230KG all up.)?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't have a RV8 to weigh....but I do have a couple M70s.....

yeah me, to in process of cleaning and tarting up a m70 to put into the disco, using the guts of a zf4hp24 auto put into the 22 housing giving a hydraulic controlled auto with the 24 internals, and tranny bolts to the rear, Mega squirt the motor

Default v12 progress

finally getting the motor back together

need to get more bolts for the water return trough, old one a tad rusty, then can get inlets back on and in place, flip it over and refit the oil pick up and windage trays and finally sump, then a wire up and get it running on the floor and then begin to fit into engine bay, at this rate though it will be next year.

How did I miss someone attempting to shoehorn a Jag V12 into a Rover?
The bright side is you can make an awesome coffee table if it doesn't work out!
