Safari Roof Rack Repaint

Seems they now make a UV-resistant POR-15 paint. I'd try that in a heartbeat, stuff lasts forever. Won't even come off your skin...
EDIT: POR-15® is sensitive to UV light (sun) and must be top coated for prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Top coating is not required for areas not exposed to sunlight.

They do sell a top-coat though. All their stuff is pricey but lasts forever when installed as designed. No I don't work for them.

I just repainted my Ladder on the back door of my D2
I used Rustoleum Black Satin Finish. It matches the original powder coat exactly. I've painted lots of car and motorcycle parts that are exposed and had great luck with Rustoleum. The suggestion about room temperature is a good one. I always apply several coats. Many thin coats will look better than one or two thick coats. Also if you can find some 400 or 600 grit sandpaper and wet sand between coats. Lastly, if the part is small enough, stick it in your wifes oven for a couple of hours at very low heat. In the case of my ladder, I did it in July, and just hung it in the sun all afternoon.
