Default Steel cables between the brush & roofrack?

I was always wondering what the steel cables that run from the roof rack to the brush guard are? What are they called? What is there purpose or is it just for looks?

This might not be the right section but I didn't know where else to post it.

Thanks-

They are called limb risers. If you off-road in areas with a lot of low branches, vines, etc. overhanging the trail they can be useful. Otherwise they are just for looks, or hanging laundry on.

I had always wondered the samething but to chicken to post it. I thought it was to give addtional support to the brush guard if the front end came down hard.

I have been led to believe that they are to move tree braches and such over the vehicle instead of hitting the windshield.

The limb risers can also break or bend wimpy screw eyes, you can get much sturdier "lifting eyes" for use at the front. Can of wasp and hornet spray is handy to have as well.... soaks them from 20 feet away.

In Colorado we have a lot of low branches, serious pin striping on my rig.

I am planning on having these added to my vehicle.

Search Google, there are lots of sources for these, mostly handmade examples for ~$50. If I recall there was a UK based seller of limb risers for Rovers, too.

Hey there, Zombie Thread.
Unless you're in a South American jungle there's no point. I drive some THICK Northern Wisconsin stuff and have never wished I had limb risers. They're more for the poseur look than anything else.

i have limb risers and everyone that wheels with me in jersey is thankful i do and that i lead because i clear a lot of brush out of the way. the risers push branches up over my hellas on my roof rack and into my sand ladders which takes em out. for the tight trails loaded with pine trees im grateful to have them as it has kept my windshield in one piece. they don't however protect from trail stripes. my truck is severely striped. they simply protect the windshield and lights on your rack and clear some brush.
