ok. so i had originally planned on a body lift kit, but then decided a suspension lift kit would be better suited for my disco thanks to some good advice (you guys). but my problem is i have already payed for, and received my body lift kit. so once i replace my suspension can i still use my body kit, or should i just throw it in the trash?

 

How much of a total lift are you looking for?
Yes, after replacing the coils and shocks, you can still do a body lift. At that point your truck will be more stable and able to handle the extra lift, you may though need to be looking at brake lines and drive shafts if you go too tall.

 

i am not looking to go any more than 4". what is the max i can go and be able to stay away from replacing brake lines and driveshafts?

 

What size body lift?

The break lines are only stretched as long as your shocks can stretch. But if you go more then 2 inch you should be changing your break line.
At 4 inches you should at least change you rear drive shaft to a U joint style and be looking hard at getting a better one for the front.

 

You mean 4" with the body lift? The body lift will have zero effect on your driveline.
If you are going with a 4" suspension lift, I will be very surprised if you can do it without modified radius arms and castor corrected swivel *****. When I was looking at a RTE 3" lift and talked to them, they said I may or may not be ok without those changes with 3". Some people are, some are not. With 4" I would be surprised if you were ok.
I am assuming the body lift is 2", since that is the most common. I would combine it with a 2" suspension lift (depending on what you are after) as that will keep your CoG lower and potentially save you a lot of expense.

If you decide to not use the body lift kit however, let me know, I might be interested in it for my Defender.

 

What are you going to do with this D1, especially with a total of 4"s of lift.
If you are doing it for off road, don't, instead go spend a long summer on the trails with other people and once you realize the lift won't get you over your favorite trail then make the other necessary changes.

 

double cardin shafts front and rear. brake lines. Maybe think about a sensible solution and talk to several people. Rovertym treated me real well on my defender. Still needed the above from great basin rovers. You will create more problems that require more money the bigger you go. I couldn't see any need for more than 3 inches, but it depends on if you are for show or go. I did 3" and needed $900 in drive shafts and I'm still not finished fixing vibrations.

 

i was planning 2" suspension, 2" body lift.

 

I think this is a good plan. You will not sacrifice to max of your handling and still get 4" lift.
