I thought I'd do a quick post on my lighting and accessory solution in my '98 D1.
I did not want to create a rat's nest of wiring and be running a bunch of harnesses, so I went on a search for a solution and came across the Trigger Unit. I went with the 4 switch model, I believe they also make a 6. To sum it up, I could not be happier with the results!
Before I even got started, the first thing I did was redo the battery leads to ground and the starter.. I fabricated my own out of 2/0 welding wire and also reconfigured the negative ground so that I was rid of the weird cable that grounded mid-line to the wheel well. That is now two cables terminating at the frame. I also got rid of the positive bolt thingy that goes to the fuse block in the engine bay and it now all looks like this:
I ran the ground from the trigger unit to the ground point on the wheel well and the whole thing mounts in like this:
You can choose to have it always on and ready, or have it controlled via a master switch in the cabin, which is the only wire set I had to run through the firewall. The control unit is mounted via a magnet and is fully wireless:
I'm running front and rear lights, and my radio and USB ports off the trigger unit:
So, did the unit cost more than what it's actually running? Yeah, it did, but it's pretty much plug and play and easy to remove as needed. To top it off, works as advertised!
