Default Utility/Accessory Outlet

Hey all,

I have a 2002 4.6 HSE Borrego edition Rover. I love it but one of the things that really bugs me is that I have to leave the ash tray open to plug in my phone charger or iPad.

There is plenty of room to add an accessory outlet to the panel underneath the steering wheel or even in the side panel of the center console.

The question I have is does anyone know where I would tap into the poser under the dash? I am terrible at reading schematics and things are so "buttoned up" that I can't make heads or tails of the wiring. It would be great to have a direct hot line so that accessories can be used or charged when the motor is off but I can't seem to find a way to get through the firewall.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank,

Mike

Tap off of the existing lighter outlet in the ash tray.

Thanks gprtech. That was my first thought however I haven't figured out how to do that without taking the center console apart. I can't seem to get the side panel off and from what I've seen, it appears that the whole console needs to come apart to do that.

Is there something near the radio? That I can get out without too much trouble.

Taking the center console apart is actually quite easy and straightforward. I'd recommend that route, as it gives you the most options without compromise.

I'm not familiar with the P38 but jam your head way up by the brake pedal and look for a grommet on the firewall. Pass a positive wire through there from the battery and find a place to ground the outlet inside. Or pass a ground right from the battery, too.
I just did this and added two always hot power outlets to my D1. The outlets were about $4 each on eBay.
