19 Disco Si6 transmission issue
Assistance needed with a transmission issue. I have a 2019 Discovery Si6 with 125.000. Fairly well maintained and no previous mechanical issues.
I was driving in heavily slow and go traffic on the interstate 30-65 MPH when trans seemed to get stuck in 6th gear (?) Was traveling at 45 MPH and tried to accelerate but trans seemed to bog down and sputter. The check engine light flashed and I pulled to the shoulder and shut it down. After 5 minutes I drove to the next exit without any issue. I decided to risk it and finished my trip 500 miles without any issues.
Any thoughts on what this is?
I assume at a minimum I have a trans fluid filter/pan change in my future.
Thanks

Have you driven it since this happened? If so, are you still expecting said symptoms or has it cleared up on its own? Do you know if the transmission has been serviced? JLR claims its filled for life, but ZF recommends that that the fluid be drained and refilled between 50k-70k miles. Not a full flush, just drain and refill.
2019 gasoline Disco's run the ZF 8HP45X transmission. I changed my fluid out at 55k and there were a bunch of shavings on the pan magnets. As stated above, ZF recommends 50-75k fluid changes. DIY ran me about $300 or so, a shop quoted me $1500, and the dealer quoted me over $2k.
The OEM ZF pan runs about $100 and needs to be changed out as the filter is integrated. 5-6qt's of fluid will be around $100-120 ish.
When you're down there, check the ZF Mechatronic sleeve / entire transmission for leaks, as fluid can enter the electrical connectors and cause an issue. I've seen these transmissions have erratic shifting/error codes due to low fluid as well.

FCP has an excellent in depth guide on ZF transmissions. Might be a good idea to change out your transfer case & diff fluids at the same time, as the transmission skid plate has to come off anyway.

I'm also told the LR ZF pan is plastic. Is that true? Basically I'm told all ZF pans atlre plastic and the Disco doesn't need the metal ZF pan because of the rock guard/skid plate already protects the transmission.
Am I being lied to by the local mechanic? Or does he just not know anything - and should I run away from this shop?
I think I just found the answer to my own question, so I'm adding it here. The pan might be aluminum per the ZF oil change kit document. There are two columns for the pan and column with circle 1 is aluminum and column with circle 2 is plastic.
This explains why the Land Rover pan is more expensive but I've been told the BMW pan is also available in aluminum and costs less so I'm going to check into that. Not sure if the filter on the LR pan is different than the BMW pan.

I ordered this kit during a sale. I'll report back when I install it during summer.

I have replaced mine with the fcp euro pan. Both the factory original (I bought my 2017HSE Si6 with 13K miles and it was never owned except by the LR dealer I bought it from) were plastic and identical. I have had no issues since this replacement over 10 K miles ago.
