Default 2017 D5 Rear Tail Lights

Hi all - new to the forum and have already enjoyed snooping around
We are the proud owners or a low mileage 2017 D5 HSE LUX and I've been wondering if anyone has found a way to tie in the tailgate part of the tail lights with the actual tail lights. I think it's kinda crazy that only the fender portion of the lights act as stop and turn.

Cheers,
Pete

Welcome Pete. I don't have an answer but I've been wondering the same. The other day I had my sister press the brakes and use the blinkers just so I can see what everyone behind me sees...and it's not a lot.

Agreed - It's not a lot.. there is a lot of tail light to use back there, at least as a brake. Not sure it can be done with them being LEDs though.

I've always thought the same.

Regulation thing. Brake lamps have to be on a non movable part of the vehicle. Not sure that you can't have both though but no stock vehicles seem to. Pay attention going down the road and youll see that no vehicles main brake lights illuminate on the truck or hatch or anything that can open...

well, dang. I'm picturing a bunch of different tail lights now and can see it, but just never actually payed attention to that fact.

I was just next to an Audi Q7 (I think it was a Q7). The guy had the tailgate open. All of the rear facing tail lights and brake lights were on the opened tailgate. There were no more lights on the non opening section of the vehicle.

Wait, I just looked at a Q7 image online. There are a couple lenses in the rear bumper. Certainly those can't be all of the operating brake lights??

I did just see a Q5 apply the brakes. The lenses on the tailgate lit up. Not the lenses on the rear bumper.

What the heck are you guys doing stalking those over priced VWs? @TexasLandmark entirely correct. Great read here on this:
