Default 2020 Discovery, 36K miles, lease buyout?

wife's car that she likes, but I'm a little concerned with reliability and repair costs as vehicle ages.
2020 Disco
36K miles
residual $36K
Lease buyout $37K
If I were to buyout, is it recommended to get an extended warranty? If so, get if from LR or from a 3rd party?

I just bought a used 2020 off lease and got a 1 year CPO. I will likely buy an extended warranty from LR after the year is up. Could turn the vehicle in and if she really likes it look for a CPO? Otherwise if she’s had no problems I don’t see why not keep it? I think the reliability concerns are overblown.

In your case you are at 36k miles already. It would be difficult to buy a real JLR ( or better said, JLR "sanctioned" ) warranty. They sell that before you reach 20k miles. It is good and longer than CPO. Anyways, it is not your case anymore. If they CPO it for you, ask for a longer CPO - you will have to pay extra, more than likely, but would be worth every penny.
I bought ours at 20K miles, and I am pretty happy with it. Yes, there may be some reliability issues, but trust me, it is nothing like Mercedes for example, or BMWs ... Every "new" car these days have gremlins. Too many computers waiting to fail. Surprisingly it is not as bad as one may think, JLR that is.
Best of luck to you.

Forgive my ignorance, but is "JLR" Jaguar Land Rover?
This vehicle still has factory warranty to Nov.
When we were at the dealer this week for a different topic, the service manager said they could sell us an EW but the cost would be over $4K, just need to purchase the EW before the factory wrty expires.

Yes, that is true, it has to be before the original warranty expires. Look at the exclusions part especially. If you feel ok with that, the yes, 4k is about right. Also make sure that this is going to be in their system. JLR - yes, you are correct. Best of luck.

4k for how long? That sounds like a lot...

I've bought several CPO Land Rovers over time. The CPO warranty was nice peace of mind but I didn't need it

My Disco is hitting 90k miles and no issues at all. So at 36k yours is still a baby. If it runs well and no issues I'd say keep it. And put the 4k in a savings account for future repairs.

Agreed with BritCars. Wouldn't buy the extended warranty, put it in a savings acct. accruing some interest for a rainy day and find a good independent mechanic that specializes in Rovers.

Knock on wood, but I've got 112,000 miles on my 2017 TD6 with no issues outside of a coolant temperature sensor replacement that was an inexpensive repair. My experience with extended warranties has been miserable and often times the issuer will find their way out of replacing anything. As long as you stay on top of regular maintenance you should have a very reliable vehicle.

Your ownership experience is good to hear; I recently bought a 2020 D5 Td6 CPO.
Found a local LR specialist thanks to members here.
Interestingly, the specialist also recommended buying an extended warranty from any of my local LR dealers. The specialist mentioned they are used to working with major underwriters already.

5YR/60K $3603

7YR/75K $5258
8YR/75K $5568
