Air conditioner
2023 Discovery with 10k miles. Bought it as a retired service loaner from a Land Rover dealership. I’ve had it for 6 weeks. A couple weeks ago, I cranked it and drove a few miles, ran an errand, came back out to the car and the air conditioner was blowing hot air. Turned it off, sat there for about 10 minutes and cranked it again and it was blowing cold again. Thought it was a fluke, but nope, it has done it again today. Same scenario…. First crank of the day it works fine, ran in a store for 10 minutes, came back out and it blows hot air. But this time I drove on home and when I turned it off I noticed the fan that cools it off after I turn the ignition off did not turn on. I’m calling in th morning for a service appointment but just wanted to hear opinions on what any of you might think is wrong. Coolant is at appropriate level. I never noticed the temperature gauge rise. Any ideas. I’m frustrated.
lol, I appreciate you responding and asking that….. but I’m not a DIYer. I’m a mom…… a nurse….. knowledgeable about many other things but automotives is not one of things, lol. Owning a Land Rover, looks like I might need to start learning though.
I did go crank it just now… after it sat in the garage overnight… and the AC is cold again. I’ll see what happens after I take it out for a bit this morning.
I’m trying to think back and identify patterns or changes over the last couple days. I do recall that the fan that runs after the ignition is turned off was louder and ran slightly longer than usual for a period of about two days and then ran very very quietly and briefly for a day and then the following day is when the AC quit blowing cold and the fan didn’t come on at all after turning the ignition off. Again, I’ll see what happens today after I drive for a bit. Fingers crossed.

The freon your Rover needs is R-1234YF. warning: do not mix freons. Can't put R134a or R22 in it.
Check if the vents on the passenger side are blowing cold and driver’s side hot. If so the Climate Control Module may need an update. If it is a 2023 I would doubt a Freon issue. It is more likely a module issue with the blend doors or not activating the compressor clutch.
