Annoying Things About My Disco
I want to prepare you for disappointment. The 2018+ models have a fully digital instrument cluster, whereas the 2017 (mine included) is only digital in the center so we do not have the features he is describing.
Otherwise, I'd totally get it again.
Didn't take it as snarky.
Mine runs great, has no lag, and rides great. Still haven't figured out all the display options, I don't feel it's that easy to get through all the screens.
My biggest disappointment compared to my LR3 is the wider turning radius. Otherwise, I love the performance, gas mileage, and everything else.

This is my first experience with LR and I really like the Disco 5. Yes - there are gripes about its technology (and I do have the lag), but overall I'm satisfied with the vehicle. As an FYI - I have a Porsche Panamera TT a while ago and it had the same type of lag. I think a lot of the Euro cars use the same/similar transmission software, so they have this in common (I think it is a result of trying to get better fuel economy). Ironically, most people that buy these cars do not have fuel economy as one of their top priorities.
While I love my virtual display in the dash (MY2018), it sucks that they didn't have this when they introduced the cars for MY2017. After seeing it, I would not have purchased a Disco without it.
My last frustration in the whole purchase process was finding the car with all of the options I wanted. For me, the 'must haves' were a roof rack, trailer hitch and the high-end sound. In the end, the only 'must have' I ended up with was the roof rack. I really only wanted the trailer hitch for a bike rack, so I figured that I would just mount them to the roof (although the disco is a tall car, so it is harder vs. my other SUVs that I have owned). I do miss not getting the highest-end sound, but I am relatively happy with the mid-tier sound - it is just barely good enough...
While my local dealer had a lot of Discos in stock at the time of my purchase, the option combinations seemed very strange (perhaps that is why he had so many on the lot). In the future, I would definitely expand my search and/or be more patient without settling for options (although knowing that I could be waiting for a few months).
One thing that the Japanese automakers do much better - it is their way or no way - there are usually a couple of trim levels and various color combinations, but not much else. The last two Japanese cars I purchased, the only options I had to choose were color combo - it kind of made the buying experience a lot easier (also knowing that there really wasn't much else to get).

We just ordered the D5 to get the options we wanted, figured for an expensive vehicle we won't settle on what they could source.
I find European brands tend to option you to death, making it hard to find what you want and also raises the actual price substantially from the base price. Japanese brands tend to have far fewer options and models and they tend to load a number of items on the more expensive models. This makes the purchase process much easier, but the vehicle is less "custom". May also make it easier to have a consistent production line and less gremlins pop up with body and trim.
Would be nice to see if we can find a way to program some of these things listed above ourselves.

Our D5 also ended up with a large add on for options, but it pales in comparison to Porsche.
Japanese brands tend to be much more inclusive of std equipment though.
