I just bought a 2017 Disco 5 and I was wondering the same thing. It seems that stationary running boards are the more popular option and I'm just wondering if it's strictly because of price or for some other reason. I just called my local LR dealer and got a quote for $720 labour and 1352 for parts for stationary boards and $1080 labour and 4200 parts for powered boards. The service advisor also said that "we don't really do many powered installs".
Just in case OP isn’t aware (I wasn’t originally), you can turn off/on the auto access height adjustment when parking through the steering wheel menu. I turned mine off since I have running boards.
I added them to my MY2019 Disco 5, remember that only the newer models can support them, they cannot be added to the MY2017 for example.
I got all of the part for around £1500 off eBay and we fitted them ourselves, I really like them and they are a good help for my vertically challenged wife and the kids
Are the OEM running boards (stationary or otherwise) stout enough to serve as rock sliders if you ever venture off road? If not, I'd recommend Lucky8 Proud Rhino Rock Sliders. They were expensive, but easy to install, and they'll protect your rocker panels and doors from rocks and stumps.
