Battery Life When Stationary & Aux. Battery?

I just got back from a week car camping and had multiple low battery warnings b/c of the tailgate and doors being open for 15-20min. at a time. Running the engine took care of things, so there's was no concern of going completely dead or other electrical issues.
First question, I assume the dome lights are the only thing drawing power when doors/gate are open. In other words, will the disabling the dome lights turn everything drawing power?
Second question, has anyone fitted an auxiliary battery/power unit in their D5? Any kits one can recommend?
We're going from a 'proper' camper (w/aux. power) so we admittedly weren't too disciplined how long we used the tailgate, but it would be nice to have some extra juice for other camping gear (lights, etc.)
Thanks.

The power draw of those internal lights is very low. You shouldn't get low battery warnings from them after 20 mins. And I thought they turn off after a while anyway. I can't quite remember but think when we have left tailgate open it goes dark after a bit
There are other systems that remain on when doors etc are open. So its not as simple as just the lights. Best bet is to close it up. And lock helps ensure the modules all go into sleep mode
They are sensitive to low battery but if you're getting it a lot then the capacity of your battery may be failing. Have you measured voltage across it when engine is off?
