Thank you.
They have not identified what happened. Just said the engine is gone and they found metal shavings in the pan. Have not provided any diagnostic.

Maintenance was all good. Serviced to 35k miles with LR under warranty, then by an outside service. Presently only 51,000 miles.

I imagine many of us would be curious to know the oil change interval. i.e. was it factory spec 16k miles, or something far shorter? what oil was used?
what were the driving cycles like? inter-city sub-20mile trips, or 50 - 100mile trips on the freeway? etc.
Is there an extended warranty on the vehicle?

This is exactly what I was thinking the factory 16k miles intervals since it was serviced at the dealer and the factory castrol C1 oil being used. Seems like LR is planning engine failure with that combination.

If it was serviced per the recommended intervals it only had 2 oil changes. Did they remove the sump or just check the oil filter? How did it fail? Suddenly or over time? Thanks and sorry about your experience.

Default Update...

If anyone is still visiting back to the post I created here and hopeful for an update or can use some advice... I'm happy to report I have the truck back, after a long wait, and at zero cost to me. LRNA stepped in and covered the engine & cat converters replacement IN FULL. Found this out months ago, but wanted to actually get the truck back in my driveway before reporting such! Unbelievable service experience. I will add, I have a deep history with my local LR dealership and have come to know the service manager well. In addition to that, LRNA was pleased to see my ownership history with them, which I'm assuming had a significant impact. All in all though, against all odds, they stepped up HUGELY and covered the repairs and parts in ENTIRETY. Still blown away and hard to believe my own reality as it relates to this ordeal... Absolutely made me a customer for life.

Congratulations, that's great to hear.

Confirming this is the 3.0 gasoline motor? Did the dealer tell you what happened to the engine to cause it to grenade?

Thank you, I'm fortunate to be working with what's arguably the leading LRNA dealership - truly, a customer first business. They fought like hell for me, guided me through the application process, aided in procuring all requested documents over the life-span of the vehicle.. just all around, went to battle for me beyond expectations. Anywho, no. No definitive response as to why this happened. Like I've previously seen here, I think once they realize a diagnostic will require X amount of hours, deconstructing an engine, they're inclined to throw in the towel and consider it a full replacement. All I've got is "catastrophic engine failure". But, being in the auto industry and knowing my way around an engine, I'm inclined to believe this was the result of slipped/defective timing chain. It's most logical based on lead up and symptoms. Happened absurdly fast.. went from "problem free" to engine replacement in under 8 miles.

May I ask which dealership?

Ah I'm assuming it was the Ingenium engine? They are known to have timing chain issues. Or was it the SC V6?

Ingenium, yes. When the truck initially died and I was researching the problem endlessly, I actually found/joined a facebook group dedicated to the Ingenium engine failure. Wild to consider it's so rampant, yet not properly acknowledged by LRNA. I'm sure there'll be a class action in time, if not already.
