Problem or Feature?

Thanks - although I wouldn’t use the word “jammed.” It’s not physically stuck. Instead, it appears to be triggered electronically. I’m going to take it to the dealer, but I do wonder if there is supposed to be an electronic lock feature for the compartment.

I don't think there's anything electronic about that panel opening. I push the button and it releases it, no matter what the screen is on.

It's not electronic. It just has a dampened hinge that opens the door slowly. You still have to push it closed.

The door just jams. The next time its stuck, just press the release button while pulling on the volume **** to open it.

It's an easy dealer fix, I hear. I'm not making a trip to the dealer for it until my next oil change.

This is the correct answer.

Is the storage compartment behind the HVAC controls lighted?
Mine isn't, but I feel like it should be?

It isn’t, but I agree, it should be. As they lined the thing with black felt I had a devil of a time locating the CD slot which isn’t illuminated either...

My "secret compartment" also jams intermittently (won't open when press the "open" button)--especially when it is cold outside. When it does jam, the trick is to pull gently on the volume **** while simultaneously pressing the "open" button. It sounds like this is a known issue with a fix. I'll just wait until my annual service for the fix.
