Considering 2019 TD6 - Thoughts?
Hey everyone, I'm looking at a 2019 Disco TD6 HSE from the local dealer. Its had one owner with no accidents and a bunch of service history which the dealer was nice enough to show me. What are your thoughts on the this car? Ive done quite a bit of research on the TD6 and realize I'd have to do the front and rear timing belts in about 40-50km + the high pressure fuel pump. I'm somewhat concerned about the air suspension, is there anything else I should look out for? It seems that the car had a bunch of important components fixed recently related to the DPF/NOX/etc. - no mention about the exhaust crossover pipe however. Any input would be appreciated, car drives well and the engine rattle on start up disappears in under 1.5 seconds.2019 Land Rover Discovery TD6 - Service History Overview

Agreed with the above. If you're not going to have an extended warranty, at least set some funds aside for a rainy day when you do need a costly repair. Maintenance is super easy on this vehicle in regards to oil changes, DEF system, belts, etc. This forum, YouTube and LR parts departments/service techs are great resources.
While the records are great to have, I think the oil change interval is way too long by the previous owner for my comfort. Regardless, you should pay to do a pre-purchase inspection as it'll save a ton of headache and give you some negotiating power if something is wrong out of the gate.
You can do the front timing belt (more crucial to engine function than the fuel timing belt at the back) for next to nothing by purchasing parts on your own and finding a trusted mechanic or tackling the job yourself if you are confident in your DIY skills. I would recommend not doing that service at the dealership or any service at the dealer if you can avoid it. I went in for 2 recalls recently and left with a ~$800 drain and refill of the DEF system that I couldn't avoid due to the distance away from the dealership and how many miles I had until I couldn't restart...
I purchased my '17 TD6 with 96,000 miles and just hit 115,000 and have had 0 issues outside of a coolant temp sensor that was tricky to find. I would recommend this vehicle 100% and wouldn't be concerned over the air suspension as it is a super reliable system. I've had 3 LR's, all with air suspension, high mileage (160,000+), and never had any issues. Believe it or not, these vehicles are very reliable, if you properly maintain it.
Also, $3,000 for tires is insane.

There have been a handful of folks that have reported snapped crankshafts on this forum in regards to the 2017+, but seems to be few and far between. Keep in mind as you read that people will come to these forums to voice any and all frustrations.
I have the HSE TD6 trim and have been incredibly impressed with this truck from the jump. My only gripe has been the diesel exhaust smell in the cabin when the temperatures drop, but I just press recirculate and it clears it right up. You may be able to check for fumes/smell in your cabin by turning the heat on and letting the vehicle idle.
Many have reported windshield glass failure, but yours has been replaced which is great.
I stayed away from the HSE LUX trim as the electronics scared me away and didn't really have a need for the massaging seats, electronic folding seats, etc. To me it felt like an additional thing to maintain that could get costly and it wasn't a necessity when I went through my buying process.
Also, has the fuel filter only been replaced once according to the service records?

I typically like to chang my oil every 7.5k miles so these extended intervals are worrying me a bit as I'm sure the bearings are already worn down quite a bit.

I would wait to hear what others say in regards to the oil change intervals and service history. Obviously shorter the better in between changes, but some may feel more comfortable with the service history. Good luck! Continue to lean into the forum and good luck with your purchase. These are great vehicles!

I also agree with get the best warranty available.
My rig is 2017. I bought it @40K it now has 97K.
Windshield was already done. In two plus years, only replaced EGR/cooler. Indy shop, $1700. parts labor.
She tows like a beast! She is a super beast off road.
Its a must to get her out on the highway frequently.
I started with a D2, then went to D3.....When diesel D5 came available..... the rest is history.
You have to stay on top of maintenance. If you can do it yourself, it will save you lots of cash.
Hey, we are here to help, if we can!
Good luck!

What is the general censuses on the Si6 Gas engine? Is it considered more reliable and not susceptible to the catastrophic engine failures like the TD6? We would be using the car for trips around town mon-friday and longer 2-3 hours drives on the highway on weekends once or twice a month.
