Default Cup holder sliding

Ok I’m tired of this damn thing knocking my coffee over. Anytime I hit the breaks my cup hold slides forward. Anyone have a remedy for this that makes it need a little more elbow to open?

Mine doesn't tend to slide with two insulated drink containers in it - each full and one is a 24 ouncer, pretty tall.

I think it's just friction based. With a bit of "fuzz lining" in the slots.

Haven't had an issue with mine, but then I hardly open the cup holder to access the bin beneath.

The last 1/4 inch or so of travel in each direction has a slight resistance and snugs it up a bit. Here is a picture just before it tightens up and another in the fully open position. You can see the different positions if you look closely.

If you can’t fix it the “right” way maybe you could use a self adhesive magnet on the rear side (facing the center console and not visible when closed) and a piece of self adhesive steel on the back wall. So the magnet would hold it closed and would still be silent and easy to open. Magnet wouldn’t be visible either bar the strip of steel on the back wall when open (painted black or covered in self adhesive black material like half a Velcro strip which would also damp the closing sound?).
I haven’t looked to see if this idea is possible but that’s where my mind will go if I find I have the problem...

There’s actually a little round rubber bumper you could replace with a magnet. Haven’t looked to see where to put a metal striker or attracting magnet.

Ours doesnt have the sliding door (2020 landmark)... and the mobile phone slot is between the 2 cup holders. can you replace it with one like that or remove the door entirely? My old cadillac truck has covers i can close over the cup holders and I leave it open 100% of the time. I don't see the point in covering them... I always travel with a beverage

Are you saying on your 2020 you have no storage underneath the cup holders?! That’s a huge space with charging and great for tablets. Shame if they have removed it imho.

It doesn't unless i dont know what I'm doing. I yanked on the cupholders and nothing happened. It's a Landmark Edition... so the options are all ***** nilly compared to the se hse and hse lux... some stuff is like an SE and some stuff is like a lux... and every thing in between.
