Interesting...

I assumed they all had it as the space is obviously there and they’d have to design, make and inventory track extra plastic bits to not provide it...

TexaxLandmark- The cupholder tray slides forward, toward the dashboard. Revealing a huge cubby for storage. Would be very interesting if LR did away with all of that space.?

I tried again... couldnt get it to move forward. I'll send a pic at some point because it looks different than this one.

Given the phone holder slot doubles as the handle to slide it forward, putting it in the middle instead is at the rear suggests it’s not supposed to slide forward as you’d “lose” the handler halfway into opening as it would disappear under the dash.
Question is...
Do some trim levels have the phone slot in the middle vs the rear on all years?
I have seen YouTube video reviews with the phone slot in the middle now that I think about it and they didn’t mention the storage underneath. I thought they overlooked it but obviously not.
Seems strange for LR to go out of their way to limit storage by trim level given the space is already there and they have to spend money to offer two setups. Hardly something that would persuade a buyer to spend thousands more on a higher trim level in my opinion....

Magnet wouldn’t be visible either bar the strip of steel on the back wall when open (painted black or covered in self adhesive black material like half a Velcro strip which would also damp the closing sound?).
I haven’t looked to see if this idea is possible but that’s where my mind will go if I find I have the problem...

that’s brilliant! Right now if there’s any drink in it the weight just send it’s flying up everytime I brake more that very mild. Going to try this!

Picture of 2020 discovery landmark cupholders. It doesn't slide unless I'm totally missing something. Pic is sort of upside down. Sorry.

On the 2020 Discovery brochure, it says the cup holders with the additional storage beneath is only available on HSE and HSE Luxury. It's on page 21 of their annual brochure (2020 brochure)--there is a little footnote indicating this.

Looking at that photo...there is also a "pocket" (next to the umbrella) that those of us with sliding cubbys do not have.
