Default Def

Just bought a 2017 Diesel Discovery V and need to add DEF. LR specifies their DEF, but I have read several articles that seem to indicate that BlueDEF will work just as well. Has anyone tried using an alternative to the LR DEF?

after verifying with my LR service advisor (who also owns a D5 Td6), i've refilled with BLUEDEF from target/wal-mart without any issues.

DEF is DEF, as far as I've been able to tell.

The only tip I have is that you can't pour the DEF at full-speed—go slow, otherwise it backs-up the fill spout and all over the fender. Kind of a PITA, but at least you don't have to do it very often.

My experience:

I have ran this from begining: https://www.walmart.com/ip/BLUEDEF-D...RoCnhIQAvD_BwE

Buy one of these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cut the bottom off, add a short flexible tube directed back down inside .

Park D5 on an incline, front end uphill.

Using the modified bottle, you can fill tank in 10 minutes.

Hope this helps.

The main thing to look for with DEF is if it has the appropriate ISO spec (ISO 22241) and then you want to try and buy the freshest DEF possible. Learn how to read DEF date codes and make sure your DEF wasn't sitting outside in any heat.

I bought a DEF funnel similar to this one below and it worked great.

Good tips, @AirRyan ! I'll give that funnel a go and see if it works well for me, too.
