Default Discovery 5 P360

Helo! My checking engine light came on after I replaced the 12V battery on 2021 Discovery S R-Dymamic P360

The codes that appeared are the following:

P0A1F-96 Battery Energy Control Module-component Internal Failure
U006487-Vehicle Communication Bus E-missing Message
P0A7B-00 Battery Energy Control Module Request MIL illumination

I took the car to the dealership for diagnosis and they told me that the 48V battery of the hybrid system had a voltage problem and it should be replaced.

So they presented a bill of 4,000 dollars for the service I didn't trust the diagnosis because it doesn’t match with the information showed by the scanner so I refused.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean you changed the car main 12v battery?

I'd start by disconnecting that battery (both terminals). Give it 30s. Then clean off both terminals of any corrosion. And reconnect it. Would then read and clear all codes. And see if anything comes back. Also confirm new battery is fully charged.

You probably want to ignore your ignorant dealer and call Land Rover USA.
First, isn’t your vehicle still covered by warranty? I mean it’s now 4 years/50k miles but what was it when you got it?
Second, I thought federal legislation mandated that vendors honor a 8 years/100k miles warranty for a hybrid battery system including MHEV. If you’re in California it’s probably higher due to state legislation.

Hello! Unfortunately the car has already 72k miles. I searched and apparently the batteries of the MHVE vehicles does not have a 100,000 or 8 year warranty. I’m going to get the car to an independent mechanic to make a diagnosis. I don't think it is necessary to change the 48v battery but I would probably have to reprogram the BECM module.

You will have to get to a honest dealership ( is there such a thing anymore ? ) and have the 12v battery module reprogrammed. When you changed the 12v battery, and if you are on/ or above v.4 on PIVI, you need to reprogram / calibrate the 12v battery module. I seriously doubt it is your 48v battery. Try a different dealership, and see what they say. Ask them for the test results ( printout ) for the MHEV battery, if they still insist that is the battery. Best test to see if the 48v battery fails it will be the auto start / stop, which is controlled or feed from the 48v. Keep us posted.

Hello! It is really difficult to find a dealer who is honest in their diagnosis. This week I took it to a mechanic I know and I'm waiting for him to diagnose it. I agree with you that the problem must be reprogramming the battery control module, because the failure occurred after changing the 12v battery. As soon as I receive the diagnosis I will post it here.
Happy New Year!

The BCM should be able to reset itself fine. I've never had to reset it. It recalibrates itself automatically. So I'm not sure that's your core issue here.
