Default Diesel Td6 Engine Block Heater

Has anyone added an engine block heater to the diesel Td6? I just picked up my 2018 Discovery and I was unable to order it with the block heater. I guess it is Canada only in the US. I live in Alaska so a block heater is a necessity. After a bit of digging around, I discovered I can order the parts through the Land Rover Dealer, but ouch, $700 for the parts alone. I may try ordering the block heater through Ford, since the 2018 F-150 is now available with the same engine (few minor differences. The block heater through Ford is $150.

Anybody tried this?

John

Unfortunately I think you will have to be the test bed for this one. Not a lot of folks are playing with the D5 yet.

Ford and Land Rover do have history so it could work.

Keep us posted. I'm very interested in having a block heater installed.
You can order parts through the dealer but they will not perform the installation? What are the LR and Ford part #'s?
Any Canadian owners with one installed on the forum?...

I will be driving the new Discovery up to Alaska in September and I'm planning to do the block heater this fall. I'll take some pics and post once I do the install. The Ford part numbers are JL3Z6A051A (heater) JL3Z6B018D (wire assembly).

As an FYI, the Land Rover parts are LR038158, LR054145, & LR031623.

I will be interested in how your installation goes. I looked into trying to get one for my 2017 D5 last year, but gave up.

Did anyone ever do this? Winter is coming and I wouldn't mind having one of these installed before it gets too cold.

I installed one on my 2017. Goes into a radiator hose.
