Disco 5 Si6 Engine Oil DIY

Since this discussion has been split into SI6 and TD6 I'll post this here too:
LR011279 is the gas engine oil filter and runs $28 on that genuinelandroverparts.com
Here's a way to know for sure how much oil is not getting drained by sucking it through the top: When I do mine (not due yet): I will suck out all the oil via the suction tube. Then I'll drop the skid plate and pull the drain plug and see what else comes out. If someone else gets to do this first please let us know (both TD6 and SI6).

Siphon versus drain
Did an oil change in a Si6 in a 2016 sport. 48 k miles, excellent service history.
Siphoned out approx 7.8 quarts.
I pumped the siphon 10 times after the first time the pump started sputtering.
Removed the drain plug and caught the remainder of fluid. I let it drain until the stream turned to a drip.
In the pain I caught 420 Milliliters(.42 liter) of oil. In this oil was a small clump of thick sludge.

Definitive answer on JLR spec oil.
From the technical team at BG Petrospecs:
ACEA A1/B1 was first introduced into the ACEA Oil Sequences in 2004, however, it is based upon the original ACEA A1 and ACEA B1 sequences that were introduced in 1996. SO you can see this is a very old specification. Prior to ACEA 2008, ACEA A1/B1 was usually coupled with the Ford specification, WSS-M2C913-B.
Here are the dots that connect why BG 729 can be used in place of the Land Rover engine oil.

ST JLR.51.5122 specification 0W-20 is suitable for use in automotive gasoline engines where the manufacturer recommends the ACEA A1/B1 specification.
ACEA A1/B1 oils are Mainline lubricants. They are designed for use in gasoline light duty engines that have been specifically designed to use a low viscosity oil.
ACEA A1/B1 oils are typically used in older vehicles as they do not provide the minimum performance demanded by newer API or ACEA OEM specifications.
Since BG 729 provides the highest API oil protection that is required by model year 2019 and previous specs, by default BG 729 0W-20 would fulfill the performance of the older ACEA A1 B1 (JLR 51.5122 specification).

Castrol EDGE 5W-30 C1 is a newly available product which like Castrol EDGE Professional C1 5W-30, it too meets the Jaguar/Land Rover STJLR.03.5005 requirement but is sold by retailers such as Wal-Mart, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Pep Boys, Strauss, NAPA Auto Parts and by select quick lubes, dealerships and auto service centers around the country.
Edit: also, here is a PDF from Castrol noting that it is approved. https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/7D249026957BF138802582640063F63E/$File/BPXE-AXKVGG.pdf

Do you happen to know what the C1 denotes and if there is any actual difference between the C1 version and the standard Castrol Edge 5W-30 diesel formula at Walmart?

Weird, it used to link directly. The link goes to Castrol's website, they may have disabled external hot linking. Check with your LR service rep and they should be able to confirm.
