I had the same reaction. The Defender felt top heavy in turns. Had to slow down more than in the Discovery. Both had great visibility. For the money the Discovery offers so much more. A comparably equipped Defender was $3000 more than the Discovery.

 

Thanks for these reviews. I do have two quite useful observations on the storage tray in front of passenger and the C pillar square.

First I am retired and except for very occasional grandkids it’s just adults

The storage tray, if you will in front of passenger is the absolute perfect fit for a bottle of wine (unopened of course) to securely stow it while on your way to friends for an evening.
‘The “square” makes a great dry erase easel for diagramming how you want hunters to walk a pheasant field

More seriously our kids have a Disco 4 and I agree it is a better family vehicle. However I have to say for me I absolutely love the Defender. Thanks again for real world comparison.
