Default Do software updates require incremental updates?

Hello,.

I understand all software has updates.

I understand that software systems in vehicles are not as streamlined for ease with updates.

This question came to mind after reading another forum post.

To insure the best possible result with software updates are incremental updates required?

For example only - the numbers below do not represent actual software versions.

I purchase a 2020 and it has software version 1.0.
The most current version is 5.0

Is the system "smart" enough to go from 1.0 to 5.0 with ease.

OR

Does each system update interval need to be installed first?

Thank you.

At 19.1 you may have to have the dealer update is there is an update from 2019/2020 that essentially turned on the ability to receive over the air updates.

I've only ever seen it do a single update so I think it's smart enough to see the latest version and do a single update to get to it

As mentioned above, over the air updates were enabled in a version a few years ago. I'd have thought any car you buy now will have had that done. So just connect the car to WiFi and check for updates.
