does anyone experienced fuel (diesel in this case) stain like the attached picture on a Disco 5 2.0 240? I’ve checked the cap and for what I can say everything looks good, it’s fully closed, the rubber seal is present and to my eyes it’s in good condition. I saw a spring in it, but I didn’t check it too much.
The stain looks like just powder, if I lightly pass a finger on it I can take it off and I don’t see it really stained the paint, but I just don’t know what’s causing it.
If you accidently spill a single drop of fuel it will spread and migrate down just like that. Once the diesel residue is on the paint road dust will stick to it.
I’m always very careful when I’m doing gas and usually I don’t spill nothing directly on the paint (and in case I wipe it off immediately with a QD), there’s only a few occasions when some drops ends on the inside of the door, the black plastic trim. Do you think that’s enough to going down to the paint?
@Toki have you recently driven on anything that would cause dust buildup under the gas tank cover (dirt/gravel road) followed by a recent rain? This recently has happened to me and noticed it the last time I filled up. Looks identical to your photo. I also have a TD6.
But I still wonder why it does that? Maybe the rain goes through the opening of the fuel door and then some fuel drip on the paint and the dust get collected?
I looked up others white LR (not Disco 5) to see if it’s common on all LR from 2017 to now and no one has it, that’s why I asked.
Anyway, I don’t want to make a big deal, I’d just like to solve it.
