After searching the Interwebs for a few weeks I finally pulled the trigger on a 2018 HSE LUX Td6 and bought my first Land Rover!
I was able to find a 20k mile CPO with almost all the options available, or at least all the ones my wife and I wanted. I never knew a LUX had so many options that were not standard. Very different than American cars lol
Let’s just say that I got well acquainted with it on my 1200 mile drive back home. The comfort was second to none, and I thought my Lincoln was smooth. Fuel economy in relation to power was incredible, averaged 26 mpg even with pulling mountain grades through West Virginia at 80+ mph.
One issue I came across this morning while detailing it in the garage was a low battery detected. After having the doors and back hatch open, without ant music playing for about 45 minutes. I touched the button to close the hatch it stopped midway. Went to the front and noticed the battery warning in the dash. I thought this was rather odd of a CPO vehicle especially after just driving it 1200 miles. I did reach out to the dealer and waiting to hear back.
The wife is excited and can’t wait to start adding accessories. That is a win / win for me!
Super nice !!! Enjoy.
I would like to take the liberty to share some of my past experiences and some advice for what it matters:
- change oil more often than the service required. I would go so far to say, change it a 1/2 intervals. Depending on how much you drive, aggressive, towing, etc you may encounter oil dilution. Oil is cheap, engine is expensive. You can do it at home relatively easy. Now, the regular oil changes ( the service stated ones) do them at the dealership, so you maintain your CPO. If something happens, say the engine ... and you did (the service oil changes) at home, they may try to wiggle out of paying for any related repairs.
- never let the DEF go low, or get the warning. It is a known issue that the "add blue" is corrosive and it will have an adverse effect on the sensor in the tank (if not fully submersed - oxidation to be exact ). You can use any add blue. It really does not need to be "dealership grade".
- spend a bit more, and change the fuel filters every 2 oil changes.
- Not sure what CPO you have, but - watch the rubber hoses, pipes etc. In most LR CPO warranties they are excluded, and subsequently the damages they may cause down the line. Make sure they are all in good shape, all the time.
For the low battery: the system is all the time "awake"... draining battery. Is not great, but is sort of normal. To preserve battery, try to double lock it from the remote (twice press the lock button, till you hear the horn beeping shortly). By doing so, it puts the "active" functions to sleep and preserves the battery better.
Hope you will enjoy this a long time and let me tell you, it is a pleasure driving it. On my previous one, I used to get 26-29 MPG most of the time. Feels good.

Thanks for the great information @Mechano2020 ! I tend to do my own oil changes on all my cars and only run quality oil and filters. Funny that you mentioned the DEF. The salesman said to buy something other than adblue and just add it myself, which will indeed be the case. I have already downloaded the App and will make sure the DEF never gets below 1/2. I will give the key fob lock tip a try and see what happens.
Congrats man I love my HSE LUX TD6 the fuel economy is amazing and also if you're going to do a lot of towing this is great as well I'm also experiencing the low battery light by opening the trunk too many times. I hope you enjoy it super amazing vehicles.
Thanks, @LR disco 5 my plan is to buy a boat next year and this is exactly what I was looking for. I was wondering about that with the battery. Our neighbors came over to check out our new purchase and I kind of forgot about showing them the seat functions with leaving the doors open when detailing the interior. From all the videos I have watched, I am really impressed with the 4WD ability of the Discover and can't wait to check that out as well. I needed the towing package and I also have the locking rear diff as well, win/win.
You may have a fading battery - with doors and hatch open the car isn't drawing much power in the led righting and accessory mode. If you run the stereo that will quickly eat battery. But if that's off you shouldn't have a problem after 45 mins. Charge it up, measure voltage across the battery when fully charged. And check to see what it measures. My guess is you may have a failing cell in there.
