Andries, it is low, and it does suck when you’re in the mud. It sucks 500 times more monkeying around with with the plastic bolts and snap in pieces in the mud.
As for the shackle. Use soft shackles, way stonger, and safer. The also prevent damage to neighboring parts.
I think I’m going to cut mine out.. I’ll post if I do.
My security blanket is they sell metal replacement covers on Ali for around $100

Thanks for the update, I messaged them as well. I want to get info on what needs to be modified "cut out" and what winch fits. As well if they have any ideas for front recovery points and rock sliders

Is it just not listed on their site? I was looking around and they don't have an option for Discovery V.

I don't see it either but, give them a call and they can get you squared away. I checked yesterday while I was asking about some other parts.

I cut an access hole in mine. Couldn't remove the cover easily so I cut it in place. Looks a little rougher in this picture than it really is because the pictures are so close up. You have to get down to ground level to even see the cutout. Not noticeable when standing in front of it.

Default Cut out

I have looked at cutting out mine as well, but want to put a cover in the back behind the hook, as it seems very open behind to let dirt on to the top of skid plate. Been too lazy to look for some rubber matting to cut and screw in place.

I'll have to look into doing that, but a pressure wash will probably take care of it.

The owners manual shows to remove the cover by releasing the 4 plastic screws then pulling the cover forward. I got the 4 screws released but couldn’t get the cover to pull forward and gave up before breaking it. If you’ve removed your cover I’d like to hear how and see a picture of the 8 tabs that hold the upper edge in place.
