Default Genuine roof rack?

I saw a post on FB about it, but can’t find it again.

Anybody have any info? Wondering about price, material, and build quality.

I have the factory cross bars and the factory ski rack attachments. They are very good quality and fairly quiet - I can hear a little bit of wind noise from the ski rack attachments only with the sunroof open. Without the ski rack, but just the cross bars, there is no noticeable noise with the sunroof open. The cross bars are fairly easy to install, no tools required. They only go in a specific spot on the roof rails as there's a hole on the inside edge of the roof rail that accepts a pin on the cross bar. But you could drill another hole in the roof rail if you wanted to move them somewhere else. The front and rear cross bars are slightly different lengths so they are location specific. And the ends of the crossbars angle slightly - i.e. the side rails are not exactly parallel so you can't easily swap the orientation from left to right - no problem but beware of this or you'll fight them during installation. The ski attachment fastens to the cross bar with two machine screws for each bar. I modified mine to be a bit easier to attach but the easiest way would be to install the ski rack while the crossbars are off the vehicle since it's so easy to take the crossbars off. I think the crossbars are aluminum with plastic end caps and steel clamping levers. I don't recall if the ski rack is aluminum or steel but it has a plastic end where it latches and locks, good quality, too.
I can't help you with price - they were included free with my CPO because it was a loaner to a ski area before I bought it.
If you have more questions I can take a picture of a part for you.

Thank you for the in depth response. I should have been more specific.

There is now actually a platform safari style rack available for the D5!

Ill get more info when I’m back in the shop on the 3rd, but was hoping others had seen or know about it.

Interesting, it seems like it replaces the actual rails and don’t just hookup to the crossbar locations.
I am looking for a lighter duty solution that just hook into the crossbar locations.
This way I can swap out with factotcrossbars when needed. I bolted the Thule ski racks to the factory crossbars, so it is easy to pop off when not needed.
Would love a roofrack for spring to fall, and the ski racks for winter. But have the ability to quickly remove it for daily driving.

Not a big fan of it myself. Lot other options that will hold more and fit just fine - for less. I am leaning towards the Rhino Rack platform. A lot of good accessories as well.

Have to say I’m pretty underwhelmed. For the price I’d rather have a Rhino Rack or Frontrunner.
