High pitch squeal when changing gears D5 D300 HSE
Afternoon, new to the forum and looking for any support you can give me in relation to a high pitch squeak that I'm getting when the car is cold and changing through the gears. It's a really obvious high pitched whine either just before it changes up or down. The noise does reduce a lot as the car warms up but its definitely getting louder with mileage (22000 on a 21 plate) Land Rover say they don't know what it is (same old!). Interestingly, the last time the car was in being fixed for something else they gave me a Defender D300 which made the same noise, I stupidly thought it was the explorer roof rack moving around as its that kind of metallic noise. Any help would be massively appreciated!
More to this now, it's not mechanical but seems electrical. The car makes the noise when turning the heated windscreen on and off regardless of whether it's warm or cold. It seems the noise is worst when cold as the car is switching lots of things on and off? Could it be the alternator or battery causing a surge?
